How do you
pronounce your name and what does it mean?
Een-oh-TECK-a. Enoteca is a word much like bistro, it
describes the type of place we are. Vin is the French word
for wine. In Italy and now the United States, enotecas are wine
stores, wine cellars or wine bars – sometimes a combination of all
three. We consider ourselves a wine-focused restaurant with a great
wine bar. We use a Cruvinet system which allows us to have over
fifty wines by the glass, in several different pour sizes. Guests
can partake of the wine bar atmosphere and our small plates, but we
are also a full-service fine dining restaurant. We are casual but
refined – many people visit us for special occasions, but just as
many visit the bar to snack or try a flight of wines.
Where are you
located?
We are in the old Pine State Creamery building at 410 Glenwood
Avenue South, Suite 350. We are in the downtown area near several
hotels and inns as well as the performing arts centers and theaters.
Our restaurant faces the corner of North Street and Glenwood Avenue.
Do you have
parking?
We have ample parking on both sides of the Creamery building, except
for the eight spaces marked resident parking. As well, there is
street parking all the way around the block and a parking deck on
Tucker Street.
What kind of
food do you serve and how often does the menu change?
We are a wine-focused restaurant serving eclectic new American food;
our menu has a number of small plates, artisan cheeses, cured meats,
and traditional entrees. The menu changes a little bit most every
day, depending on what's best and fresh. We try to keep the website
menu up to date, but can fax you one if you like.
When are you
open?
We serve dinner Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm. We
seat for the dinner menu until 10:30, but serve dessert and cheese
until 11:00. The bar is open from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm. We also serve
brunch on Sundays from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm.
What kind of
brunch do you serve?
We serve a menu, with dishes from $9 to $16. Cocktails begin at
noon.
What is the
chef's name?
Ashley Christensen. See the chef page for more info.
How long have
you been open?
We opened in September 1999. Andrea Reusing was the first chef.
Ashley took over as executive chef on New Year's Eve 2001.
Do you
take/recommend reservations?
We take reservations of any size for dinner. We recommend
reservations as our seating is limited. We don't take reservations
for brunch except for parties of eight or larger. We invite anyone
to walk in and join us for a full dinner at the bar. Weather
permitting, we also have patio dining.
What about
large parties?
We frequently host parties in the main dining area - groups of
sixteen or less work best. We also have seating for up to 14 that is
somewhat removed from the main dining tables. Weather permitting,
our patio is an excellent place to host seated dinners or standing
receptions. It is also possible to rent the entire restaurant for
private events. Please contact event coordinator Suzanne Douvlos for
pricing, menus and availability.
Do you have a pre-theater dinner special?
Yes, please see the events page for details.
Do you sell
gift certificates?
Yes, in any increment. Call 919.834.3070 or email. We can mail gift
certificates with gift cards and menus for your convenience.
What is your
dress code?
We don't have a dress code, but the average is dressy casual.
Can the chef do
tasting menus?
Yes, please let us know in advance if you are interested.
Are there
vegetarian or vegan dishes?
Yes, most often to order. The chef makes every effort to accommodate
all dietary restrictions. Advance notice when making a reservation
is helpful.
Is there a
corkage fee?
We have an extensive and celebrated wine list that has been awarded
a Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator (one of only two
in the Triangle) and has been featured in Food & Wine magazine. We
also have a full bar. However, if you'd like to bring a special
bottle our corkage fee is $15.
What credit
cards do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
Are you
wheelchair accessible?
Yes. If you park on the side of the building facing Tucker Street
and enter the door for Stool Pigeons, you will find an elevator to
your right. Take this to the second floor and enter our dining room
straight ahead. Please note: there is a very steep ramp in front of
our restaurant meant for freight only... please don't attempt to use
this for wheelchairs. We'd love to assist you in any way possible.
